About Us

“Responsible Treks is a local travel company based in Boudha, Kathmandu, Nepal. Founded by a group of individuals from Simikot-Humla, the organization is driven by a passion to  develop and share their homeland and the surrounding mountainous regions. Their innovative spirit and love for adventure are professionally complemented by meticulous research, planning, and over 20 years  of industry experience.

Namaste & Tashi Delek. We look forward to welcoming you to Himalayas!”

Area:

Nepal is widely recognized for Mount Everest and the Annapurna region; however, at Responsible Treks we understand that there is so much more to discover in this beautiful land. We take pride in guiding our global clients to the less-explored regions, Where beauty, diversity and tranquility still thrive.

Adventure awaits in these remote areas, far off the beaten path, hidden within the Himalayas. We invite you to explore the Pristine landscape of Karnali, journey through Limi to Mt.Kailash, and discover the wonders of Dolpo, Rara, Api, Saipal, the Tibetan plateau, and the jungles of Bardia.

Foundation & Ethos:

At Responsible Treks, we share an abiding passion for our homeland. Growing up, we listened with great admiration to the tales and songs of our ancestors, who journeyed by foot and horseback along the ancient salt trading routes across the Himalayan subcontinent. This allure of discovery ignited our imagination and inspired us to take action, leading to the founding of Responsible Treks in December 2009.

With passion, field expertise, and intimate local knowledge, our team is dedicated to offering you the opportunity to travel through the remote regions of Nepal while providing essential support to the people who need it most. According to SNV (a Dutch International Development Organization), less than 1% of tourism revenues in Nepal reach the most in-need and remote rural areas—a statistic we are committed to changing.

Our mission is to promote responsible and sustainable travel within these remote areas, with a deep care not only for the local environment but also for supporting local culture and ensuring that host communities benefit from our efforts.

Commitment:

As a Travelife partner, Responsible Treks has met rigorous sustainability criteria. From 2014 to 2018, we were also audited and coached by the CBI export coaching program, an initiative of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at promoting trade between Europe and entrepreneurs in developing countries. This experience has allowed us to enhance our efficiency, professionalism, and services.

We regularly participate in leading global tourism events such as ITB Berlin, WTM London, and ATTA events around the world.

Leadership & Safety:

Ensuring your health and safety is our top priority. Successful operations depend on meticulous preparation. With the right training, planning, and a positive mindset, no trek or summit is out of reach.

All our trek leaders are qualified mountain guides with extensive field experience. Our staff are trained in essential first aid and are fully insured. They carry mobile and satellite phones to maintain communication with our headquarters in Kathmandu.

For your personal welfare, Responsible Treks requires all clients to have comprehensive insurance coverage for the duration of their trip. This should include protection against cancellations, accidents, health emergencies, COVID-19, evacuation, and loss, theft, or damage to baggage and personal effects.

High Standards:

We believe it’s our personal touch, exceptional service, and flexibility that keep our customers coming back. Understanding the importance of comfort, we strive to ensure that our accommodations include the best hotels available, while also maintaining a balance with authentic local charm. In areas where facilities are limited, we carefully select accommodations based on location, hygiene, and waste management.

We see tourism as an opportunity to actively protect and further develop our rich cultural heritage and awareness. At Responsible Treks, we are passionate about sharing our knowledge and love for Nepal, working tirelessly to ensure that the travel experience is meaningful for both visitors and hosts alike.
