Wild Yak Expedition Trip to Limi Valley

Responsible Treks is proud to collaborate with Project Ukali in promoting unique experiences of tracking Wild Yak in Limi Valley of West Nepal. We are bringing several years of field experiences of Project Ukali and its field biologist along with Responsible treks decades in the tourism industry for making the trip of the lifetime. Project Ukali has been leading research and conservation on snow leopard  in the Annapurna region since 2014.

Wild yaks have evolved to live in the harsh environments of Tibet and the Himalayas, which are located at high heights. At elevations above 15,000 feet (4,500 meters), they are frequently seen in valleys, alpine meadows, and on rocky hillsides.

Physical Features: Males, called bulls, are significantly larger than females, called cows, making wild yaks really unique animals. They can withstand harsh weather conditions because of their shaggy fur, which serves as protection against temperature changes. Their hump, which sits above their shoulders, is a distinguishing characteristic. Males (called bulls) are significantly larger than females (called cows) in wild yaks. Their fur helps them survive in harsh weather conditions and serves as insulation against the cold.

The Limi valley (Simikot,Humla) is the only remaining place where you can still witness the vibrant Tibetan and Himalayan culture and lifestyle, due to the matrimonial relationship between Western Nepal and Tibet. Your trek follows the ancient salt trading and pilgrimage route to the border of Nepal and Tibet,China, crossing the Nara La pass (15,000 ft/ 4,620 m) and Nyalu La (16,000 ft/ 4,900 m) with spectacular views of the Himalaya.

Apart from Wild Yak, you will have the chance to spot the elusive snow leopard, bharal (Himalayan blue sheep), jackals, kiang (Tibetan wild ass), and musk deer.
