With his cross-cultural & International management experience Chhewang is the driving force behind the Responsible Treks initiative.Chhewang originated from the remote Nyinba Valley, located in Humla, West Nepal where the people are of Tibetan origin. Chhewang believes this rich cultural heritage is what links him with his passion for the mountains. As a young man Chhewang studied hard knowing that the future would take him much further than his small mountain town. After grade 3 he moved to Kathmandu for further studies and then gained his degree in business from a top Indian college.Chhewang has worked in the tourism industry for over 15 years & is now the founder of Responsible Treks. To this day Chhewang remains inspired by the magic of the mountains and its people. He is passionate about both his work & sharing the amazing experiences of Nepal, Tibet, Sikkim& Bhutan with others.Chhewang believes that in addition to his extensive trek-leading and operating experience, it is his close relationship and commitment to the many indigenous communities that gives Responsible Treks its unique signature.
Rinzin Phunjok Lama – Sustainable Manager
Rinzin Phunjok Lama is the first graduate in environmental science from Humla. He has a BSc in Forestry from the Tribhuvan University of Nepal and a Master’s degree in International Nature Conservation from the University of Göttingen, Germany, and Lincoln University, New Zealand. Currently, he is a conservation biologist at Third Pole Conservancy, an NGO established to promote science-based conservation of wildlife and its habitat in Nepal Himalaya. He is also an executive member of the Nepal-based NGO Mountain Spirit. Since 2014, Lama has been actively involved in research and conservation of high-altitude wildlife in Nepal, with many peer-reviewed articles to his credit. In 2015, he won a Wildlife Conservation Network scholarship to pursue his MSc. In 2020, he won the WWF Nepal Conservation Award. Recently he has been awarded the prestigious Rolex Award for Enterprise 2021 in recognition of his effort for biodiversity conservation in Nepal’s Trans-Himalaya.
At such a young age, Rinzin brings great international exposure and rich experience working in the field of mountain tourism, wildlife research, and conservation in Nepal. As a part of the team, he focuses on our specialized experience trips related to wildlife, conservation, and sustainable tourism which aims at extending our support to the local economy and environment conservation, whilst maintaining our commitment to travel, discovery, and sustainability.

Sonam N. Lama – Director & Trek Leader
Mr Sonam N. Lama Born in Bargaun-Humla, amidst the Himalayas. He is one of the most passionate and qualified young tourism professional that we have in Nepal today. He knows Mountains well and trekked almost every where in Nepal including the Great Himalaya trails West Section (Simikot-Rara-Dolpo-Mustang) Sonam has completed basic mountaineering and ice climbing training from Khumbu Climbing Center. He is also one of the 1st guide in Nepal to have completed ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association) guide training in Nepal. In addition- Sonam is a licensed guide by the authority of Nepal government. He soon plans to climb Mount Everest. He has been at the helm of Responsible Treks since 2013.

Bikram Shamser Kunwar – CFO (Chief Finance Officer)
Bikram is a graduated in commerce. He joined responsible treks in 2012 and since then he is ever present . He is in charge of all the customer services of our company. His flexibilty , good sense of humour and in love with numbers makes him great part of Rt Team.
Most importantly , he has excellent communication and customer service skill having a profound ability of giving front desk service in a fast paced environment. He is our head of accountant Department looking after the finance of our company.

Chirring is from Humla. He is also trained government licensed Guide .He was been working with us for last 4 years. He is our special guide for Annapurna areas ; Annapurna Base camp and Annapurna Circuit
Pemba Gyaltsen Sherpa- Trekking/Mountaineering Guide
One of our best guide, Pemba Sherpa hails from Phortse in Khumbu Region. He started his guiding career in 2010 and since then he has never stopped exploring mountains. Mr. Sherpa is a government licensed Guide who has as TWICE climbed Mt.Everest and numerous high peaks. He is wilderness first-aid trained. He loves climbing and also he is trained with ice and mountaineering.
Dawa Singhi Hyolmo – Guide
Originating from Helambu(Langtang Region). He is tourism graduate and trained guide. Mr. Dawa is also a government licensed Guide . His smile, big heart, wonderful sense of hospitality and friendliness is certain to swoon all who travel with him. He has also climbed many peaks .
Gyaljan Lama – Tour Manager
I was fortunate to be born in Humla, a remote village in North West Nepal which borders to Tibet. The unique cultures and beautiful landscapes provided me to experience the hidden Himalayas from young age. I am one of the lucky person to be educated in Budhanilkantha School, Kathmandu.
I started my career in different NGOs and INGO but later shifted to Bank. Slowly, I discovered that my true passion was travelling. In the last 3 years, I have travelled everywhere around Nepal Himalayas. I am also licensed Trek and Tour Guide from the Nepal government.

Originally from the Chang Valley in Humla, Upal (Annabella Lama) has worked as trekking leader for over 3 years and has visited most of the trekking routes around the Nepal Himalayas.

They are responsible for the successful delivery of our trips and the enjoyment and safety of our clients, whether in the mountains, the city, the jungle or on the river. All our mountain guides are carefully chosen. They are safety conscious and are trained in high altitude sickness and emergency protocol. They play an important role in the liaison between client and culture, providing useful insights into the Nepali way of life. All guides are licensed by the government and are trained in responsible travel, first aid and high altitude sickness.
